Meditation doesn’t have to be a chore to fit into your everyday routine. Here I share some tips to incorporate the stress-busting practice into your life.
FIND A TIME THAT SUITS YOU
Fit meditation around your schedule, but be realistic and CONSISTENT. If you are just striating or tend to forget, try “attaching” it to an everyday activity such a brushing your teeth or showering, which will act as trigger to remind you to meditate.
ANYTHING CAN BE MEDITATIVE
There are many ways to incorporate meditation: mindful running, mindful swimming, even mindful commuting. You don’t have to sit still in a quiet room with your eyes closed.
DON'T TRY TO BE PERFECT
There is no such thing as ‘perfect meditation’. Sometimes your focus will wander — and that’s OK. Just allow your mind to refocus. Meditating isn’t just about de-stressing or managing anxiety. It activates the part of the brain that helps you focus, to enhance skills such as critical thinking, decision making and planning.
YOU ONLY NEED 10 MINUTES
Meditating every day for just 10 minutes with has proven to reduce stress in only 10 days. However, there are no strict rules — meditate when you can and for as long as you can comfortably fir into your routine.
