Babylonstoren, Hotel (and garden, spa, restaurant and cellar!)
Cape Winelands (Western Cape), South Africa
Because the first thing that comes to mind is “Heaven on earth.” You see, I never imagined a place on the countryside could literally have it all: an endless garden stocked with plentiful fruits and vegetables in the most vivid and alive colors I have yet ever met — ingredients that are the base of their dishes presented at any of the restaurants, you have Babel, Greenhouse and the Bakery, — farm-to-table eating at its best. But wait a sec, why not head to the Tasting Room, which sits adjacent to the Wine Cellar, and opt for a tasting of Babylonstoren’s wines along with a few light-bites? I was surprised finding out I actually loved that red (Nebukadnesar 2015), (and the small plates too).
And so, the place is magic, from the pristine-white rooms, a hugging bathtub, the quality of clean air, the most beautiful and robust flora, fauna and I could go because it’s just, really, Eden-like.
Babylonstoren is located in the Cape Winelands—40 min away from Cape Town—making it a perfect getaway from the city or if you’re visiting a great combination of the city and country-living.
If you’re in the area, make sure to visit other nearby estates (although nothing as unique as Babylonstoren) such as Delaire Graff, Tokara and the charming little town of Stellenbosch.
